Katie Couric Hot Husbands Twitter Contest: Some Thank Yous

Katie

So…I won.

And I’ll warn you now, if you’re getting sick of all this, just click out and close the browser. This one it going to get a little cheesy.

That said, in spirit of the upcoming Grammy Awards, I’d like to thank a few people. Reason being, if not for these folks, I totally wouldn’t have gone through with this experience. I would’ve backed out and missed a ton of fun.

My Wife

Shawnda entered me into this on a whim and a tweet from Julie Dolan. The day I met Shawnda I knew we’d get into some crazy stuff together over the years and that is one of the biggest things that drew me to her. I knew life wouldn’t be boring together and I’ve been right every step of the way.

Thanks, babe.

My Co-Workers

Initially, I moped around about this at work. As some of you probably heard me say a thousand times, I was taking the “Hot” title literally and it was awkward for me. As it turns out, a lot of what makes us “hot” to our wives is how we make them feel. That’s something I can really hang my hat on because I work hard on our relationship. My co-workers played a big role in helping me understand that. If not for them, it may have been harder to convince me to do it.

My Friends, both digital and real-life

You guys put up with a lot of posts, man. Some of you even went and voted for me a hundred times. It blew me away. Over the years, I’ve put myself out there a lot with music and other things. It’d have been real easy to be all like “Jeez, Dave’s an asshole…all starving for attention…” But, you didn’t. Ok, maybe some of you did…but for the most part, I didn’t see much of that. It really makes you feel loved, you know?

What I’ve Re-Learned Through This

This is an easy lesson to understand, but not so easy to grasp onto for very long and it’s this: The only way you’re going to grow and really experience life is if you force yourself to go up against and face those things that make you feel uncomfortable.

Since fear is the driver, it’s really hard to face and practice regularly. But, if you can nail it, you’ll get to do a lot that you would’ve missed out on if you hadn’t.

Whether it’s that presentation at work, putting out those songs you’ve been writing in your basement, starting your new blog, or even asking out the girl you just know will blow you off…If you don’t take the dive and try, you’re going to whither away.

And that’s serious too. That’s from my heart. I almost let fear and anxiety keep me from going through with this and I would’ve missed out on a really great memory-filled time with my wife and some new friends.

Thanks, buds.
